“I bet your oven at home is spotless?!”
Posted by BenR on May 17, 2017 in Oven Cleaning Blog | Comments Off
We have cleaned a lot of ovens over the years, but do we clean our own?
I bet your oven at home is spotless?! A lot of our customers say this to me. Well it is true, sort of. I have trained my girlfriend in the fine arts of keeping and oven clean on a regular basis! It’s the last thing I want to do when I get home and I don’t want to spend my weekends doing it. It’s a tough job and I have to have a rest from it!
Fortunately my girlfriend is pretty good at keeping on top of it and wiping it down regularly. I do however, about every 3 months give it a proper deep clean just to keep it in tip top condition.
Whenever we have friends over for dinner, knowing what we do, the first thing they do is look in the oven to see if it’s clean and I would hate to disappoint them. So in answer to my customers question, yes it is spotless, but it’s not all my doing.
There’s nothing like a bit of peer pressure to get that oven cleaned!
Cleaning your extractors: A summary

Types of extractor hood: What do you have?
Stainless Steel Extractor Hoods:
Most extractor hoods have stainless steel or aluminium filters. Generally speaking they do not need to be replaced, they just need to be cleaned. They have a wire mesh appearance and that is what traps the grease. They normally slide or pull out. We clean these by placing them in the heated dip tank inside our vans to remove all the grease and then we spray them down with a water jet. The filters are dried and then put back in place.
These should never really need to be replaced unless completely filthy.
We don’t replace the carbon cycle filters within the extractor hood itself, as these should always be protected by the wire mesh filter beneath it.
Built-in / Pull-out extractors
These normally have paper filters, sometimes with a carbon foam filter located behind it. We replace the paper filters as part of our service. Our filter papers go a red colour when they are coated with grease, indicating when it is time to change the paper filter again.
To clean the extractor units themselves involves lots of degreasing paste as they get very sticky and greasy inside and out. Even when the extractor is not in use, steam still rises into the extractor area, meaning it is constantly absorbing residue that then dries and forms layers of grease and fat.

Top 5 Bakeries in Sussex
Posted by BenR on Sep 2, 2015 in Oven Cleaning Blog, Top 5's! | Comments Off
Oven Cleaners are constantly needing to refuel, and a good lunch keeps us all energised and ready for the hard graft needed in cleaning 4-5 ovens a day.
We are continually looking to eat and create healthy options for our lunch. However, this doesn’t always come to fruition, and, in times of need, its always important to know your nearest rest stop. And namely, the best bakery around.
We’ve compiled a starter list of our favourite bakeries and our favourite lunch bites. Let us know your thoughts!
1. Lindfield Bakery
Top of the pile for me, one of the quaintest, best value bakeries in Sussex. Nestled in this beautiful village, in a central spot on the high street, the queue, even in the depths of winter is out of the door. Great service – favourite lunch: Chicken & Mushroom Slice with rhubarb cake for afters.
2. Albion House Bakery – near Heathfield
Like all good bakeries, this gem looks almost like the front of a house, and is stashed on a busy road en route to Heathfield. A lovely frontage and great selection of pasties, our favourite being the steak slice, followed by a macaroon.

3. Patcham Village Bakery
Again, just off the exit of the a23 headed into Brighton, is this olde worlde bakery, who’s smells waft delicately up the lane (if you find a parking space!) Home for many of Brighton’s white van drivers, this bakery does some wonderful fresh sandwiches, and follow it up with an apricot slice!
4. Jack & Jill’s Bakery – Ringmer
The proliferation of good village bakeries in East Sussex is topped by Jack & Jills infamous bakery. Their spicy Chicken pasty, followed by one of their beautifully crafted doughnuts, is a must for any travelling workman.

5. Merry Miller – Findon
Do not be tempted to go to the Tesco Express in this little precinct of shops, when you can get a much tastier better value lunch from this fine bakers. Their bacon & cheese pastry’s are to die for, and try one of their chocolate muffins for afters!

Give your oven an MOT clean.
Posted by BenR on Feb 18, 2014 in Oven Cleaning Blog | Comments Off
We are always asked by customers as to how regularly they should be getting in touch with us to get their oven cleaned. It’s a difficult question as it really depends on the type of oven you have, and how much and what you cook in it! We always advise that you should get your oven cleaned at least once a year. Think of it like an MOT or service on your car, it helps to get rid of unwanted dirt and grease, making the oven work more efficiently and your food tasting better!
We change the bulbs in the oven and the filters in your extractor as part of the price of a clean, we’ll advise you on any parts of the cooker that may need servicing (such as hinges/fan etc) We get up close and personal with your cooker so you don’t have to!
Some customers choose to have their cookers done more than once a year – and this as a rule tends to be families who cook for a large amount of people, or perhaps the more enthusiastic of cooks out there! Either way, once its cleaned our customers are very happy – you can check out our ever growing list of testimonials here:

Rangemaster Glass issues – in Crawley and Eastbourne
Posted by BenR on Oct 28, 2013 in Oven Cleaning Blog | Comments Off
We’ve recently come across an issue with a 110cm Rangemaster model at a couple of cleans in Crawley and Eastbourne. As a rule, these range cookers are pretty methodical in how they need to be cleaned, and with our Range Pack offer we can fully clean extractor, hobs, ovens and glass.
However, on these 2 jobs, (same model of Range) we came across a small problem. Once the glass had been bladed, cleaned and wiped down, we set about to take the door off and clean the layer of dust and grease on the interior of the door.
When we took the door apart, we found a new design feature that we had not encountered prevoiusly in Rangemaster models. The interior (middle) pain of glass was actually glued – forming almost a double glazed pane within the door. Unfortunately, within this double glazing a strange misty tint had appeared so that, looking into the door there was not a clear view of the interior. Because the misting was in between the double glazing, we could not physically get in there to clean it.
As far as we can see this is a design fault in the Range, as both customers said within months of having the cooker this had appeared, and they naturally thought it was dirt forming. It’s possible to clean the dust on the inner pane, but not on this double glazed pane unfortunately, so just something to highlight and worth calling Rangemaster to highlight!!
